Top 3 gasket materials for high temperature
1. Composite Graphite

The Best advantage of Graphite is its flexibility, it can seal the rough surface and most importantly it can withstand heat up to 450 Celsius, high pressure and aggressive chemicals. You can see often graphite is used on cylinder head gaskets (see example 23538406), exhaust gaskets (see example 106322), DPF gasket and EGR gasket, notice the common point? they are all in high temperature and high-pressure areas!
2. FKM Rubber

There are a lot of types for rubber, but we will only talk about FKM in this article. When you see a head gasket with bonded rubber (see example 4334081), 90% out of the time the rubber type is FKM; Or the gaskets that are close to the combustion area, the valve cover gasket (see example 22777560). Why? When choosing a rubber type, we will consider the heat and chemical oil resistance, FKM can beat both and withstand the heat up to 230 Celsius while the rest of the type is the highest 200 Celsius.
3. Multi-layer Steel (MLS)

One layer steel can seal good, MLS is even better. There are 2 to 5 layers and sometimes even 7 layers. MLS often goes with FKM rubber parts bonded to it to enhance the sealing. Cylinder head gasket, exhaust gasket (see example 97192618) and turbocharger gaskets are the types that use MLS the most, same as the composite graphite gaskets, these gaskets must work under high temperature and pressure environment. We offer various stainless-steel types, S301, S304 and S430.
