In this article, we will briefly show you how we make MLS custom head gasket and how we determine the right materials, each step is crucial. Typically, it will take 7 to 8 weeks to complete a custom gasket.
In this case, we have an actual head gasket sent over for development.
Project: MLS Cylinder Head Gasket
On point 1, Multi-Layered steel:
This gasket is an MLS gasket, and the steel types are not specified, before determining which metal types we are going to use, we will test and exam each layer of the metal and choose the most suitable type to match the steel features (hardness, thickness, and other chemical features) we conclude from the tests.
On point 2, Rubber type:
Same as the steel, we sample a piece of rubber from the gasket and analyzed the compound of the rubber to determine the type. Consider where the cylinder head gasket is placed, 90% of the times the rubber will be FKM rubber. FKM can endure the heat, chemical oil, and gases. We also have a very clean shape of the rubber parts after bonding onto the gasket without any excess rubber on the surface or burrs on the edge.
On point 3, Gasket Fitment:
we use CNC machine to form details, like water and oil holes, on the mould, this can ensure the dimension of gasket is exactly match to the original gasket, the bore size after installing the fire ring is also precisely measured. We make sure every angle and dimension of the gasket are within the tolerance and it has the best fitment when installing on the engine cylinder head.
